Dear Friends:
I'm excited to invite you to golf with me on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Mays Landing Country Club for the 3rd Annual Robert A. Ripley Memorial Golf Tournament.
To the right, you will find a short biography about the tournament’s namesake, Bob Ripley. Bob led a life of civic and community leadership that we can only aspire to achieve. Through my service to my community, I've tried to follow the lead of Bob Ripley (and others) in making a true and sincere commitment to our community.
I humbly ask for your support in helping me continue that service to Hamilton Township. Please support the Robert A. Ripley Memorial Golf Tournament by either being a corporate sponsor, a tee sponsor and/or by playing in the tournament. A portion of the proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship in memory of Bob Ripley to a graduating senior from Oakcrest High School. Please use the contact information above to obtain a registration form.
I hope you will not miss this opportunity to participate in such a worthwhile event! I look forward to seeing you on September 17th!
Sincerely,
Steve Caldwell

Bob Ripley’s legacy... There are heroes who deservedly command the local news for a day or two, and then there are the quiet heroes who walk among us … a devoted, loyal husband or passionately engaged father; a soldier who fights for our civil liberties in a time of war; an employee whose service spans decades; a volunteer fireman who risks his life to save others; or a coach who ignites the spirit of our youth. Any of these can be an example of a hero. Find all of these qualities in one individual, and well, now you have the makings of a genuine local legend. Bob Ripley was a lifelong resident of Mays Landing, married to his beloved wife Charlotte for 55 years. Together, they proudly shared six children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Bob's home was his heart and his community his haven. Bob Ripley retired from Wheaton Plastic’s Company after 34 years of service. He and Charlotte owned the “Rusty Nail Tavern" in the 70’s. Bob served his country in the Korean War and then served his fellow veterans on the Hamilton Township Veteran’s Advisory Board and as treasurer for the Mays Landing American Legion Post 254 for many years. Bob was one of the founders of the Mays Landing Athletic Association. He coached Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football. He initiated the original Night of Lights boat parade on the Greater Egg Harbor River. Bob was a volunteer fireman with Mays Landing Fire Department, a member of the Hamilton Township Republican Club, and a County Election Board poll worker. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. In 2005, the Ripley family and Hamilton Township community said goodbye to Bob Ripley when he passed away after a courageous battle with lung cancer. The 2nd Annual Robert A. Ripley Memorial Golf Tournament is a tribute to the quiet hero better known and loved as Bob Ripley. Please join us on this wonderful day as we honor him, his family and his amazing legacy.
A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT WILL BE USED TO FUND A SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF BOB TO BE AWARDED TO A GRADUATING SENIOR FROM OAKCREST HIGH SCHOOL.
