Steve Caldwell Announces Candidacy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Friday, April 4, 2008

Lt. Steve Caldwell announced today that he will run for Hamilton Township Committee in the 2008 General Election.  Caldwell received the Republican nomination following a Thursday evening meeting of the party’s Nominating Committee.

 Lt. Caldwell will vie for the 3-year term in a seat currently held by Committeeman Joe Nickels who is not seeking reelection.  Caldwell, who is certainly no stranger to politics, has been a member of the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years, working in every unit of the office and supervising most.  Additionally, Caldwell holds the position of President of the Sheriffs Office Superior Officers Association. 

  Caldwell has vast experience in grant application and was instrumental in bringing the Highway Safety Grants to the Sheriffs Office, specifically benefiting the areas of Child Safety, Vision and our Seniors.  He is the recipient of many awards and commendations including the COMBAT CROSS medal given for an individual act of heroism while in combat with an armed adversary, and WOUNDED IN COMBAT medal as a result of an injury received in the line of duty. 

 “I am running because I’m concerned about HamiltonTownship ”, remarked Lt. Caldwell.  “I’ve raised my four children here and love this town.  Were going to be facing some tough issues in the coming years,  including reevaluation, and I believe I can be part of the solution.” He continued, “I am excited about the campaign and the opportunity to serve the citizens of HamiltonTownship .”

 Mayor Charlie Pritchard wholeheartedly supports Lt. Caldwell’s run.  “Steve will be a formidable candidate.  He gained valuable experience and credibility when he ran for Sheriff and I am excited to have someone of Steve’s caliber entering into the race for Township Committee.”

Caldwellis a former youth sports coach in the Hamilton Township Police Athletic League where he helped bring in the Powerlifting Program.   He attended BlairAcademy and Montclair State College.  He was an All-American in Wrestling and a National Champion in Powerlifting. 

Steve Caldwell and the Caldwell family are 25-year residents of HamiltonTownship .  Steve resides in Mays Landing with his wife Marla and their 4 children.
